I couldn’t resist going to watch Bromley’s first game of the new season, at home to Tranmere. It was a relief to be able to go along without a notebook, and just watch the football. Predictably, the game was a huge disappointment as we lost 2-0 and I can’t remember us having a single shot on target. I hadn’t seen the majority of the Bromley side play before, which demonstrates how busy the club have been in the transfer market over the summer. And, to be honest, they looked like a team that hadn’t played together very often.
The highlight came when the pitch was invaded by a Tranmere fan, dressed as a hot dog, straight after the first goal. The man, clearly relishing (geddit?) the occasion, ran onto the perfectly mown grass, waved his arms around, evaded a few stewards and jumped back into the crowd. I’m told he was later led out of the ground by several police officers.
I didn’t go to the next two games, but I didn’t miss much. After the loss to Tranmere, we went on to lose 1-0 at Torquay (around 40 Bromley fans made the Tuesday night trip) and 1-0 to Solihull Moors. Bromley are currently bottom of the table, with no points and no goals. Things can only get better. Can’t they?
